Padre Sheedy’s Umbrella

About This Project

Padre Sheedy’s Umbrella – City of San Jose – San Jose, CA

Efforts of San Jose State University art professor, Tony May and his students in his Art in Community class, produced this piece in commemoration of Father Mateo Sheedy. Father Sheedy was known in the neighborhood as the pastor at Sacred Heart Church who had fostered many programs and initiatives to uplift the people around him. Located in Parque de Padre Mateo Sheedy, this umbrella-shaped, cantilevered steel pipe structure is embedded in a reinforced concrete drilled pier foundation. Completed in 2008.
