About This Project

Urban Rain – City of San Jose – San Jose, CA

Artist Jackie Brookner incorporated function to develop the form of these art pieces for the Roosevelt Community Center’s north and south entries. At the north entry, a rock garden and seating area during dry weather and water filtration system during wet weather, this piece consists of stepping steel troughs on steel columns which catch water from the building’s roof drains and directs the water into a concrete basin with a fingerprint-inspired splash and rock filter. At the south entry, a glass-enclosed sculpture catches roof drain water and shows off its water filtration system in action. All sculpture elements are supported on reinforced concrete footings. Completed in 2008.
