Santa Clara International Swim Center Solar Roof | David Thimgan | Santa Clara, CA
This 380-foot long steel-truss roof structure provides over 34,000 sq. feet of shade cover over the Swim Center grandstands. To maximize viewing of the center’s swimming pools, only eight steel support columns are used, extending up out of deep concrete pier footings to provide stability against wind and seismic forces. In addition to shade, a primary function of the structure was to support hundreds of solar panels to heat the pool water and reduce the facility’s outside energy demand. This is just one project that represents AKH’s history of dedication to the use of energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly technologies in our structural designs. Constructed in 1976.
